Just about every town has one, but I think Georgetown’s Swamp Fox Players is the best community theater in South Carolina!
I had the pleasure of attending the Swamp Fox Players’ production of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” last night with some friends. The local talent in Georgetown and Pawleys Island, SC is amazing! I tried to pick a favorite character all night, but could not decide between Meridith Thompkins’ “Missy,” Donia Dawson’s “Cindy Lou,” Ashley Plexico’s “Betty Jean,” or Josie Thames’ “Suzy.” They all had beautiful voices and terrific comedic timing! The music was outstanding, as was the band!
The Swamp Fox Players is a volunteer community organization of theater lovers who are dedicated to the production of staged plays and musicals performed at the Strand Theater on Front Street in Georgetown, about 4 miles south of DeBordieu. Unfortunately, this is the last weekend for “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” so if you want tickets, you need to hurry. Call the Strand Theater box office at (843) 527-2924 and leave a message. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the box office on the days when there is a production, like today, Saturday and Sunday. On those days, the box office opens at 4 pm.
The next scheduled production, just in time for Halloween, is “Dracula,” October 26 & 27 and November 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10.
