Wooden Boat Exhibit
Over 140 classic wooden boats ranging in size from kayaks to yachts will be displayed in the water and on Front street. Visitors will be able to meet and talk to wooden boat craftsmen, manufacturers, and owners. Maritime art, crafts, models and educational exhibits will also be on display.
Wooden Boat Challenge
(Boatbuilding 12 noon- 4 pm | Rowing Race 5 pm ). Teams of two will compete to build a rowing skiff within a 4-hour time limit and then test their boats for seaworthiness in a rowing relay on the Sampit River. The teams will be judged on construction speed, quality of work, and rowing speed. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners.
Knot Tying with Dan “the Knot Man” and the Spirit Knot Tyers
Dan “the Knot Man” will demonstrate knot tying for children and adults. Visitors will have an opportunity to test their knot tying skills in the “Six Knot Challenge.” Dan is a member of the Spirit Knot Tyers and former president of the International Guild of Knot Tyers.
The Ship’s Store: Poster signing and T-shirts
Wooden Boat Show featured artist (to be named in 2017) will be on hand to sign posters. Posters and T-shirts featuring the 2017 original art will be available for sale.
Kid’s Model Boatbuilding
Children can try their hand at building a boat model and then test sail it in a pond on Front Street.

The Blue Plantation Band
Blue Plantation is an accomplished acoustic string band with a diverse variety of authentic musical styles including Bluegrass, Irish, Folk, Country, Swing, and Jazz. They have performed at the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show for many years and they always get the crowd moving.

Special Events
Pirate Careening Camp
The Charles Towne Few is a living history group that entertains and educates the public about nautical history using period equipment, weapons, and clothing from the 1680s to the 1820S. The Few will explain life during the Golden Age of Piracy and discuss pirate roles during the Revolutionary War, the French and Indian War and pirate history here in the Carolinas. Join them at their Careening Camp beside the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center at 531 Front Street.
The Commander’s Tour 2 – 4 pm
The Kaminski House Museum will offer a mini-tour of the home of the U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Harold Kaminski and his wife, Julia on Saturday, October 20, 2 – 5 pm. You can experience the “Commander’s Den,” filled with antique model ships, naval art, memorabilia, and much more. Admission for the tour is $5.00. Awards Ceremony 7 pm
An awards banquet will be held for boat exhibitors, boatbuilding competitors, sponsors, and guests. Prizes will be presented to the winners in each of the exhibit categories, to the “People’s Choice Award” winning exhibitor, and to the winning boat building competitors.

Opti Pram Regatta 11 am -2 pm
This event is open to sailors 8 to 15 years of age. There is no fee to sail. Races will be held from the docks at Francis Marion Park. Sailors will need to arrive at check-in 15 minutes prior to their race with a USCG approved life jacket and dressed for the weather. Group photos will be taken prior to each heat and then sailors will be escorted down to the docks and our volunteer will review the course with them. The Regatta is organized by the SC Maritime Museum’s Youth Sailing Program. REGISTER NOW: Click here to go to a Google Docs Registration Form. Cardboard Boat Regatta
Preview of Boats 10 am – 2 pm Regatta 2:30 pm
Regatta participants will stretch the limits of their ingenuity to design boats made entirely of corrugated cardboard. No other construction materials are allowed, with the exception of tape, waterproofing, and cardboard oars to propel the craft. No wood, no metal, no motors—just cardboard and imagination. Boats can range from simple rafts to stunning ships and they must be able to float on the Sampit River.

Music by Rene Russell 12 – 3 pm
Russell is a music veteran of 35 years and is known for her energetic solo performances during which she uses percussive slaps to provide the beat for her unique finger picking and pulling techniques on her 12-string guitar. Although she has used bass and viola players in her live performances, in Russell’s 35 years of experience, she has never played in a band or owned a 6-string guitar. Her DIY approach to music has resulted in a style that is incredibly clean sounding, while retaining an edgy, and dynamic live sound.
