Creek Night at New and Improved DeBordieu Pavilion!

It’s everyone’s favorite event. It’s casual. It’s fun. And with the new improvements made to the DeBordieu Pavilion (a.k.a. the Olde Beach Club), it was a very special event, indeed!

Residents of this private oceanfront community just south of Pawleys Island, SC enjoyed dining on seafood delecacies caught in the creeks of North Inlet and prepared by their fellow neighbors.
Here are some pictures from the event, as well as some of the changes that have been made to the Pavilion.
Congratulations to the DeBordieu Club’s Property Committee and to it’s chair, Wayne Rogers, for the wonderful improvements that include:
NEW Toilets (ADA accessible), with outside access
NEW Kitchen with new stainless steel equipment,
including warming box and refrigerator.
NEW Lighting Fixtures and Fans, with repairs to the electrical system.

 

NEW Heat and AC for the toilets and kitchen
NEW wood and paint

NEW pool equipment/storage room
“Acid-etch” the concrete floor (looks like tile to me!)

One of the great things about being a member of DeBordieu Club is that the members really care about the facilities and want to make sure they are kept up to the standards they expect from their club. The Olde Beach Club, uh….I mean….the PAVILION certainly does that now more than ever. Whether you go there for Creek Night, a Birthday Party, or a Wedding Reception, you are sure to be pleased with the improvements!

Friday-Sunday, October 21-23
Eligibility: Open to any amateur membership holder. Men’s and Women’s divisions.
Qualifying: You will no longer have to qualify for this event. Your handicap index on Oct. 1 will dictate your seeding. Sign up in the Golf Shop. The lowest 8 handicap indexes will be in the Championship Flight and next lowest 8 indexes in the First Flight, etc.
Format: Gross Match Play (No Handicaps).
Tee Assignment: Men: Gator Course. Women: Red Tees.
Round 1 – Friday, Oct. 21 – Tee-times start at 1:00 p.m.
1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5 — in Each Flight.
Round 2 – Saturday, Oct. 22 – Tee-times start at 9:00 a.m.
1-8 winner vs. 4-5 winner 2-7 winner vs. 3-6 winner — in Each Flight.
Round 3 – Sunday, Oct. 23 – Tee-times start at 9:00 a.m. – Final 2 Players from Each Flight. On Course Each Day – Beer, Water, Soda, and Gatorade.
Following Play on Sunday, Oct 17 (Approximately 2:30 p.m.) Light Hors D’oeuvres – Beer and Wine

NBC Football to feature Coach John McKissick

NBC Football to feature Coach John McKissick and the Summerville Greenwave

One of my favorite parts of showing prospects around DeBordieu is when we ride by the home of John and Joann McKissick I get to say….” See that mailbox with the football on it? That belongs to the winningest coach in football history….. Coach John McKissick, from my alma mata, Summerville High School, home of the mighty Greenwave.”

Some recognize his name, but even more will after Sunday night, when Coach McKissick and Summerville will be featured in the Pre-Game Show on NBC’s Sunday Night Football Game between the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons. I hear the segment will be called “An All-American Homecoming,” and will air at 7:30.

Coach McKissick is in his 60th consecutive year as the head coach for the Summerville Greenwave. He has coached 10 state championship teams and notched 591 wins, which is more than any other football coach at any level! My dad, Archie Paris, used to keep stats for Coach McKissick, and actually hosted the first John McKissick Show. They were such good friends, that Coach McKissick actually gave the eulogy at my dad’s funeral, a day I will certainly never forget, and for which I will be forever grateful.

OCTOBER Dining and Social Events at DeBordieu Club

CREEK NIGHTThursday, October 20th – 6-9 PM. A long-standing DeBordieu tradition! Come to the Pavilion at the Beach Club and join the fun. Enjoy oysters from DeBordieu’s creeks, breaded flounder and other delicious dishes prepared by DeBordieu residents.

LOBSTER NIGHTFriday, October 28th at the Clubhouse – 6-9 PM, The evenings’ meal will include Whole Maine Lobster with drawn butter, new potatoes, corn on the cob, salad and dessert bar.

FINE DINING The oceanfront DeBordieu Beach Club is open Friday through Sunday evening for Dinner Service from 6 – 9 pm, and on Sundays for Brunch Service from 10am to 2 pm.

THE GAZEBO (a.k.a. the Tiki Hut) will remain open through the month of October on Fridays from 4 – 10 pm and onSaturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 10 pm, weather permitting.

DeBordieu Labor Day Celebration

DeBordieu Club Members and their guests will have a BIG time this Labor Day Weekend with special events happening on the golf course and the tennis center, but the BIG event is Sunday, September 4th on the Blue Heron Deck at the DeBordieu Oceanfront Beach Club!

The party starts at 6, and features musical entertainment by Coco Loco!

The Menu will include: Island Style Grilled Fish Tacos, Mini Burger and French Fry Station, Low Country Shrimp Boil, Carved Grilled Ribeye, Summer Salads, Assorted Pizzas and an Ice Cream Sundae Bar.
