will debut and conduct for the Long Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra this Thursday night. His inspiration for the piece was DeBordieu!
I have been involved with the development of DeBordieu since 1986….years before Joey was born. I think this place must be in the boy’s blood.

Local legend claims that when the Marquis de Lafayette reached the shores of DeBordieu, he exclaimed, “This land is so beautiful, it must be the borderland of God!” The French translation is “D’aborde Dieu.” Eventually, the local, gullah dialect gave us an easier pronunciation….”Debidue.”
Joey’s “Le Terre Da Dieu” translates to “the land of God.” I’m looking forward to hearing this beautiful piece of music Thursday night, and I’m looking forward to showing you how beautiful DeBordieu truly is.

Giraffic Park at DeBordieu?


Yes, there’s a story here….. This truly unique home is located at the southern end of DeBordieu, with a view of the ocean in front of Hobcaw Barony, which is part of THE largest piece of protected property on the east coast of the United States. (There is not another home on the ocean for 60 miles.) We call it the “Southern Serengeti” because it has some trees that are weathered at the top that make them look like they are “Out of Africa”…. you know what I’m talking about.

Snowmageden at DeBordieu!

“Sir, you want what? a place where you can ski in the morning and then walk to the beach? Riiiiiiiiiiiight!” Well, you could have actually done just that at DeBordieu today!
DeBordieu and the entire Pawleys Island area was blanketed with snow last night!
It happens quite regularly…..like once every 8 years or so! It falls like crazy, we all go nuts, and then it melts and goes away, leaving us with great pictures, warm memories and funny stories to tell.
Many thanks to my friend and DeBordieu resident Angela Tiller for sending me these fabulous photos to share with you! It’s a winter wonderland! and we’re all enjoying it while it lasts.

The Ice Man Cameth……

The Ice Man Camethto DeBordieu, and thank God, WENTETH!

Today at DeBordieu we’re enjoying balmy temps in the low 60’s, but last week, it was a bit chilly! We’re not used to that around here!
Some really great pictures were taken on DeBordieu’s private Pete Dye Golf Course. After the sprinklers had a opportunity to douse the landscape with water, Mr. Freeze did his thing.

Also, the pipe for an outdoor shower at one of our popular beach houses busted and created this beautiful scene. Incidentally, we’ve started taking reservations in oceanfront beach homes for this summer. Call or email me if you need any help with securing a place for you and your family.

No Dampened Spirits at DeBordieu!


While having lunch in the Grill Room at the DeBordieu clubhouse last week, I heard the sound of joyous merrymaking coming from the formal dining room. Upon investigation, I discovered that the DeBordieu Club Ladies Fall Member Guest had been rained out after just nine holes, but they sure didn’t let that dampen their spirits! What a fun group!

People: The Winners! Congratulations to the Low Net Winners: Mary Witt and Peggy Dellesaga, both from DeBordieu Club, and Ginny Sutton and Polly McCormack, from Pawleys Plantation!
Places: The Adderholt House!I showed some very interesting beach property last weekend, including the Adderholt House. Even though it is currently undergoing some major remodeling, we could tell that this contemporary oceanfront home with a pool is being transformed into a real stunner! And at just $2,590,000, it’s a real value! Great rental history too!
Things: My Office! Scheduled to be painted tomorrow, my office is the brightest place in the building. Noooo, it’s not because I’m so brilliant….they’ve replaced my light, and can’t put the cover back on until they paint. So for the past few days, I’ve had four florescent bulbs shining their little hearts out. It’s starting to look pretty nuclear, and I think I’m actually getting a tan! I’m looking forward to tomorrow when I get my light cover on, my office painted, PLUS…I get to meet with a old client AND a new client! Tomorrow will be a very good day!
There truly is no place like home…..and there’s no place like DeBordieu.
