EPIC Finish at DeBordieu Club

DeBordieu Club Members and their guests experienced an EPIC finish at last weekend’s 32nd Annual Blue Heron Men’s Member-Guest Golf Tournament!

According to DeBordieu Club Head Golf Professional, Matt Williams, “The father and son team of Donny McElveen, Jr. and Donny McElveen, II bested the team of Ron Swinson and Tony Hanna in perhaps the most dramatic fashion of any golf event ever conducted at DeBordieu!

After halving the 18th hole in the final tournament playoff, the foursome marched on to a sudden death playoff.  This time they would play a closest-to the-pin competition from the newly dubbed Blue Heron hole (a tee box approximately 130 yards right of the 18th green)

The McElveen’s would tee off first while the large crowd looked on.  Unbelievably, on the first swing in this final playoff Donny McElveen, II holed the shot from 139 yards… a hole-in-one!!  All in attendance were in awe as they witnessed an incredible ending to a great weekend at DeBordieu!  Congratulations to the Champions and all of our Flight winners!’

Thank you to all who participated this year’s event, and a special thank you to our Tournament Chairmen – Scott Edwards and Perry Peace.”

“To have such an exciting finish at the place we love so much was truly special,” said big Donny. I subsequently found out that he proposed to wife Cindy right here in North Inlet in 1978! No wonder DeBordieu is such a special place for the McElveen Family!

Snow at DeBordieu Colony?

Snow at DeBordieu Colony?

Yes, once every 8 years or so, we get snow in the Pawleys Island Area, and DeBordieu Colony is no exception.

Some areas of Georgetown County experienced about 6 inches of snow on Wednesday, Jan. 3. It was gorgeous, particularly on the DeBordieu Golf Course! And the kids were in heaven!

Then freezing rain and sleet left sheets of ice on the roads making travel treacherous all over Georgetown County.

The Pawleys Island Area had record breaking cold temperatures that lasted through the weekend, and because of all the gorgeous trees, and the shade they provide, many of the roads in DeBordieu Colony stayed covered with ice through Monday!

 

So yes, we have snow every now and then, but that’s one of the reasons I love DeBordieu Colony and the Pawleys Island Area so much! We have 4 seasons…. Some are just longer than others!
