DeBordieu Club Golf & Gather

Congratulations to DeBordieu Club members Bob & Alyce Gallagher and Jack & Vee Nistendirk – Once again, DeBordieu Club Golf and Gather Champions!!

Playing Captain’s Choice, the Gallaghers and Nistendirks shot 54 to win by 3 shots over Bill & Peggy Clary and Hal & Kathy Crosswell.

DeBordieu Driving Range OPEN!

Good News for DeBordieu Club Members!!!!

The Driving Range and Chipping Green at DeBordieu Club will open for DeBordieu Club Members and their guests on Wednesday September 3, 2014! (The Putting Green will not open until the golf course re-opens on September 13.)

Until September 13, the DeBordieu Golf Range will be open from 9:00 – 5:00 Tuesday – Sunday (closed on Monday), and the Golf Shop hours will be 8:00 – 4:00.

Excitement is building as DeBordieu Club Members anticipate the reopening of their private Pete and P.B. Dye golf course about an hour north of Charleston, SC. Temporarily closed for some great enhancements of the greens, tees, fairways and roughs, the the DeBordieu Club course will be better than ever! Here are a few of the upcoming Golf Events!

DeBordieu Golf Course Improvement Project UPdate

The private golf course at DeBordieu, located about an hour north of Charleston, SC, is on target to re-open to DeBordieu members and their guests on September 13, 2014.

Even though the cooler temperatures and rain have slowed down the progress of the Bermuda fairways, the project is right on track. The ideal weather for the next three weeks is sunny with high temperatures of at least 95 degrees and little to no rainfall. SO….. Rain, Rain, Go AWAY!!!

The tees and greens will be even better than before, and are making great progress. The enlarged teeing areas will give DeBordieu Club more flexibility with tee locations.

As with all new courses, the DeBordieu fairways are going to be in good shape when the course opens, but will not reach full maturity until next summer.

Work is underway on the new tee complex on DeBordieu’s hole #11. This will bring the total yardage on hole #11 to 551 yards!

While constructing the tee complex, drainage will be added to the lot. This addition will significantly reduce standing water in this area.

The removal of old
sand in the bunkers is complete. The process of refilling the bunkers has started and should be complete in about two weeks. The bunkers will be filled with sand that meets or exceeds the USGA specifications. This new sand will provide a more consistent playing surface in all of the bunkers.

P.B. Dye at DeBordieu

P.B. Dye was onsite this past weekend at DeBordieu Club to reshape the bunkers and mounds surrounding the #18 green. The new design should make our great finishing hole more enjoyable.

The sprigging and sodding of the fairways and rough is complete. Both DeBordieu Golf Course Superintendent, Brad Lattimore and Modern Turf are very pleased with the progress so far. The recent rain events have encouraged new growth for the sprigs. Brad is expecting to start mowing some of the fairways on Monday. After the fairways have been mowed for the initial time, the application of herbicides will begin to help control the weeds.

The greens look great! Brad has started the process of slowly reducing the height of the turf. When the course opens in September, Brad is hopeful that they will be rolling between 11 and 12.

With all the new grasses on the course, the sprinklers will be running almost non-stop during the day. Please keep this in mind if you plan to use the cart paths. Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this process.
