DeBordieu residents and guests looking for something fun for their junior-aged kid to do this summer are in luck! Registration is open for the summer sailing classes at the South Carolina Maritime Museum in Georgetown, just south of DeBordieu. Young sailors (ages 9-15) will learn how to sail Opti Prams, a great beginner boat that’s the perfect size and speed for acquiring skills on the water.
Campers can choose from six sessions in June and July, but space is very limited—so don’t miss the boat! Following camp participation, students will be invited to compete in the end of summer regatta and will also be part of the Parade of Boats at the 2013 Georgetown Wooden Boat Show.
The 2013 beginner class is for students who have little or no experience on the water. Course includes basics of rigging a boat, sailing fundamentals, basic boat handling, seamanship (knots, weather, etc.), water safety and sportsmanship. Instructors will use games to incorporate team work and challenges to build confidence and excitement about the sport of sailing.

DeBordieu Colony is a very private community on the coast of South Carolina, between Charleston and Myrtle Beach, just south of Pawleys Island. In addition to miles of secluded beach, boat landing access to North Inlet, and a 24-hour manned security gate, the private, equity DeBordieu Club offers Pete Dye golf, a tennis center and an ocean front Beach Club with fine dining, a gazebo bar, two pools, and a playground. There is truly no place like DeBordieu. Contact me at 843-455-4523, or email TroiKaz@DeBordieu.com and let’s make plans for you to come see DeBordieu for yourself.
