DeBordieu Colony Beach Renourishment Underway!

Congratulations to the DeBordieu Colony Community Association for persevering to protect it’s most prized asset DeBordieu Beach!

Soon, DeBordieu Colony owners and their guests will once again have access to all 6.5 miles of beautiful beach on Debidue Island. DeBordieu Colony actually borders 2 miles of that barrier island, with 2.5 miles in front of Hobcaw Barony to the South, (and North Inlet) and another 2 miles in front of Arcadia and Prince George to the north (at Pawleys Inlet.)

DeBordieu Beach after Last Beach Renourishment

Marinex Construction is underway on the project that includes pumping up to 650,000 cubic yards of sand from the ocean floor with the dredge: Savannah.

The last time the beach was renourished was 7 years ago in 2015. At that time the DCCA voted on a long term plan to renourish the beach and to also add groins to extend the life of the renourishment from 6-8 years to 9-12 years.

DeBordieu Beach Renourishment is a community wide effort and a real show of solidarity among the owners in DeBordieu Colony. DeBordieu Colony owners pool their funds to pay for the beach renourishment.

The long term program calls for DeBordieu Owners to pay their fair share until 2033, when a new program will be decided. DeBordieu owners on the mainland chip in $875/year for the project while those on the island pay amounts ranging from $1,181 for a near beach home on the north end, to $9,625 for an ocean front home on the south end where the erosion is most pronounced and the owner derives the most benefit from the beach renourishment plan.

These photos were taken today, 3/28/22, from the ocean front Lot 3 DeBordieu Blvd. that just listed for sale. They will be updated periodically, so stay tuned!
