July 4th – Independence Day – may be America’s favorite holiday. Something extra to celebrate this year is that the holiday falls on a Monday, giving Americans a three-day holiday weekend. Here is a list of fun ideas to make this year’s celebration your best ever! From parades on land and sea, to concerts and other musical tributes, firework shows and a Military Flyover, there’s more than aplenty to keep you and yours in the holiday spirit for the weekend and beyond. It’s impossible to present a comprehensive list so we’re going to share just a few “day-of” Georgetown County events you won’t want to miss.
As for Parades
The 39th Annual Murrells Inlet Boat Parade will begin at 11 AM. Festively decorated boats will cruise our bright blue inlet for all to see! There will be nary a dull minute with live music the whole day long as well as succulent seafood, refreshing bev’ and lots more. On the fair island of Pawleys, the 10 AM Fourth of July Parade is a cherished community tradition. Celebrating 55 years this year, visitors and locals parade down and up Pawleys Island in nearly anything – be it golf cart, bike, boat, float, car – or flatbed truck! This parade is scads of fun and memory-making every year!
As for Music
Precious Blood of Christ is featuring an indoor (think how “cool” that will be!) performance by the Pawleys Island Concert Band on the 4th from 5 to 7 PM. It’s free and open to the public!
In Georgetown, from 6 to 8:30 PM, tunes will waft over the Harborwalk from the ever-beautiful lawn of the Kaminski House Museum. Bring your favorite nibbles and a lawn chair, then sit back, relax, and ponder patriotism in all the lyrics
you’ll enjoy.
On the MarshWalk, there will be live music from a procession of performers and bands. There always is, but the line-up is especially impressive in celebration of Independence!
As for Pyrotechnics
A Fireworks Show will explode into shape at 9 PM in East Bay Park in Georgetown. There’s no prettier lace than over Winyah Bay to bask in the glow of patriotic pride!
If you’re further north, Plan to show up at 10 PM for the Annual Fourth of July Fireworks on the MarshWalk. The MarshWalk folks are promising an awe-inspiring 20+ minute spectacular they say is the Grand Strand’s largest aerial fireworks show.
And a Seashore Flyover!
Smack in the middle of the day, around 1 PM, crowds will gather on local beaches from Garden City past Litchfield to points south of Pawleys Island around 1 p.m. for the annual Salute from the Shore. Military planes will fly along the coastline and video the patriotic crowds, and you can get participate! Get a big flag or create a living flag … get creative for and with the ole red, white, and blue! Record your salute on camera and share it with the world – on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, a blog, or any other place you want. Tag your Salute images and videos with #SalutefromtheShore – and #TroiKazCoastalGroup, of course. (Wink, wink).
There’s more, of course there’s more. Engage the Google hamster to help you search for other holiday “stuff” (you know) you need to know. A good place to start is at Hammock Coast
